EnviroClub & Eco-Schools

This is a project based club. Together with Mrs Stella Hortop, the General Assistants and parent volunteers, they have been largely responsible for the planting of indigenous gardens around the school.

2008 is our 4th year of being an Eco-School and we are currently in the process of submitting our portfolio for International Eco-Schools Status.

In addition to this, we will be submitting a poster to WESSA which will be used at the WESSA Mini Summit on Urban Biodiversity on 21 August 2008.

The Enviro Club meet once a week and have worked on the following projects:

·      created and planted indigenous foyer garden, and are currently working towards creating another garden elsewhere in the school

·      dug, planted and maintain a vegetable trench garden,

·      created environmental awareness posters,

·      made picture frames using mostly things from the environment as decorations,

·      typed and drawn labels for the plants in our gardens,

·      made paper mache flower pots (recycled paper)

·      played environmental games

We also hope to go on more excursions – Stainbank Nature Reserve, the SPCA and CROW.  The teacher in charge of Enviro Club is responsible for accompanying all the children who are interested to Durban Bay Clean-Up and the International Coast Clean-Up.
