We have a vibrant music programme at Manor Gardens which runs both within class music and in our extra-mural programme.
Class Music - Our children look at many genres of music, learn a wide variety of songs, study basic music theory, play xylophones, drums and other percussion instruments, compose music based on various themes, listen to music and respond with art, movement or by answering questions. On the completion of a theme, classes sometimes perform in an assembly or in our quarterly music evenings.
Extra-Mural Music - This exciting programme takes place either for before school, or during breaks. Manor Gardens offers Recorder groups, Guitar groups, a percussion band, ensemble, junior and senior choir. A new a capella group has also been started. All children who play an instrument - such as Violin, Trumpet, Clarinet, Cello etc, are part of the ensemble, in addition to Percussion, Xylophones, Recorders and Guitars.
Assemblies - The Recorder, Guitar and Percussion groups often take turns in performing in assembly. They play music whild the school enters and exits the school hall, and also accompany the various hymns that are sung during the assembly.
Lunch Hour Concerts - Due to the close proximity of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, classes are often taken to hear free lunch hour concerts at the Howard College Theatre. These prove to be highly enriching experiences.
Private Lessons - Private violin and piano lessons are offered at Manor Gardens. We are aiming to have other instruments taught here too.
