Manor Gardens uses the Psycholinguistic and Language Experience Approach to teaching Literacy. This method has been used successfully for the past 20 years. It encourages reading for meaning and incorporating the child's own experiences when learning. This is integrated with Outcomes Based Education which encourages a focus on both the process of learning and the results.
At Manor Gardens great emphasis is placed on encouraging thinking skills in the children, through allowing them to really engage with information, ideas, beliefs and opinions in such a way as to really form an informed opinion using reasoning and thinking skills. This is achieved through group work, problem solving, engaging with the text, research and being exposed to many ideas and beliefs. We believe that each individual child must develop at their own pace, in a non-competitive environment where they can develop their own unique talents and skills. Despite this non-competitive atmosphere, Manor Gardens is most proud of the high academic standard of the the school and of the many children who excell when they reach high school.
