Residents living near Manor Gardens Primary School were awakened at 4am on Wednesday, 14th April 1982, by the crackling and explosions as the Resource Centre housed in a prefab building burned. This building housed the school’s library with about 15000 books, records and tapes. Mr Raymond Stanley, the headmaster, also confirmed that the whole academic policy that had been worked on for years had also gone up in smoke. Neighbours alerted the fire department and helped to keep the fire from spreading to the adjoining buildings by spraying them with water.
