Manor Gardens has excellent sporting facilities and well maintained grounds and equipment. Manor Gardens is an environmental school and is currently being reviewed for international status. As a result, the children are encouraged to think carefully, and often, about their world and the animals that live in it, as well as developing their physical fitness and sporting ability. The banks adjacent to our main field are full of indigenous plants, insects and even a heathy population of mongeese that occasionally can be seen during practices and matches.
The swimming pool is utilized daily in the 1st and 4th terms of the school year as part of the PE curriculum. During the week, after the school day is complete, the swimming pool is used for intermediate swimming as an extra-curricular activity, as well as for squad training. The pool is kept sparkly clean to be enjoyed by everyone and is an educational escape from the classroom to stretch your arms and legs.
"Is that the biggest jungle gym in the world," is one of the things that children often say on visiting the school. The playground is a place for children to be children, it allows them to interact with each other, they learn to share and form friendships. It's a well-shaded area that protects the children from the blistering sun and there is no better way to recharge the brain than in the foundation phase playground.
The main school has a full size cricket field with an all weather cricket pitch. There are also four cricket practice nets. There is a netball field used for coaching and for matches. The school also has two sets of soccer posts which are utilised in PE lessons, extra-murals, and for matches. The top field is utilized for cross country.
Manor Gardens is fortunate to have a well stock Reading Room for the children from Grades 1 to 4. Our books are carefully chosen to ensure that they are meaningful and applicable to the childrens' daily experiences. The books are graded in levels of difficulty. They range from picture books to more advanced chapter books. By the end of Grade 4 the children have progressed through all these levels. The children visit the reading room everyday and choose books to read at home. We encourage the children to read for meaning and enjoyment.
