The grade 2 children are currently learning about fire. They were given a writing activity in which they had to pretend they were cavemen. They needed to make a fire to cook some dinner for their family, and to keep their family warm. Of course they could not take advantage of the luxuries today - charcoal, firelighters and matches. Here are what some of the children wrote:
After a long and thrilling final, four of our heroes came out tops during the Kids' Lit Quiz World Final hosted in Hamilton, New Zealand. The Manor Gardens team represented South Africa in the competition. Alexandra Breckenridge, Matthew Robbins, Emily Spencer and Sarah Herrington competed against teams from the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Canada. To secure their place in the World final, the Manor Gardens team competed in regional and national competitions to beat 150 South African schools and be crowned national champions.

There's more than one South African team travelling to New Zealand for a World Championship this year. A couple of months before the Rugby World Cup kicks off, a team of four 12 year olds from Manor Gardens Primary School in Durban will compete against teams from UK, USA, Canada and New Zealand in the Kids Lit Quiz, an international competition which tests the literary knowledge of children between the ages of 10 -13.
The Grade 2s enjoyed painting pictures to accompany their theme on MINIBEASTS.
The Grade 2 children went on an excursion to the Fire Station on Wednesday 24 November 2010.
Firemen to the rescue - by Sonali Balipersad, Grade 2M
Two weeks ago there was a fire on Umgeni Road. When I was walking on the pavement I saw firemen for the first time and I got so excited that when the fire engine went past me I fell into the fire engine. When I got up I asked them where they were going and when I found out my house was on fire. I fainted. They tried to wake me by throwing a bucket of water in my face. Then suddenly I woke up with a shock and my house was saved by the best firemen ever. Thank you firemen.
During the 1st term, the Grade 1s had a dress up day entitled "When we grow up".
The Grade 1 children went on an exciting excursion to PheZulu in the 2nd term. They had a lot of fun looking at the crocodiles and holding snakes!
The grade 2s completed a theme on Healthy Living in the 3rd term. They made their own very healthy sandwiches and enjoyed eating them too!
